I Love Velvet, a mobile point-of-sale hardware and software provider, has announced a major expansion to its supported devices, with the addition of the Windows Surface and all Android products, including the Samsung Galaxy, HTC and Google Nexus, to its MPOS solution portfolio. According to the company, I Love Velvet is the only mobile point-of-sale solution currently available for the Samsung Galaxy.
“As overall demand for mPOS increases, so does client demand for additional platforms running mobile solutions,” Patrick Bouaziz, chief vision officer at I Love Velvet, said in a news release. “More of the market is using the Android platform and we saw increased demand for Samsung devices overseas, specifically in the European and Asian markets. As we are constantly on the pulse of mPOS trends for our clients, we were able to immediately respond to this demand with a suite of new device support and compatibility with the Samsung Galaxy.”
I Love Velvet is unveiling its new device support at this year’s 103rd National Retail Federation Annual Convention and EXPO, under way this week in New York.
For all newly supported products, I Love Velvet said it will offer a free device and no-cost installation to the first 10 customers in the United States. I Love Velvet is also compatible with Apple’s latest devices that feature the Lightning connector — including the fourth-generation iPad, iPad mini, iPhone 5 and iPod Touch. I Love Velvet provides an extensive range of mPOS transaction capabilities that include: credit card and bank debit card swipes; European chip and pin cards; RFID; NFC and 2-D bar code scanning.
I Love Velvet is proud to announce that the German company SRC Security Research & Consulting GmbH (SRC), a PCI SSC approved PIN Transaction Security evaluation laboratory, has started the last stage of the PCI PTS security evaluation of its PIN pad product “U-Holster“.
I Love Velvet has finalised the security design of the PIN pad and has started the PCI PTS security evaluation with SRC. Now, this is a big step for the MPOS Company and SRC is confident that the PCI PTS security evaluation will soon be completed and positive.
PCI PIN Transaction Security refers to the framework within the PCI standards and requirements that deals with the evaluation and approval of payment security devices.
The Payment Card Industry (PCI) Security Standards Council (SSC) is an open global forum, launched in 2006, by the five founding global payment brands — American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB International, MasterCard Worldwide, and Visa Inc. — that is responsible for the development, management, education, and awareness of the PCI Security Standards, including the Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS), and PIN Transaction Security (PTS) requirements.
As holiday shopping peaks, traditional brick-and-mortar malls aren’t the only ones raking in the dough.
New data from kiosk maker NCR (NCR) shows 24% of U.S. travelers will buy a gift at the airport this holiday season as last-minute shoppers use the downtime before their flights to top off their Christmas lists.
With half of the multi-billion dollar airport retail market now deriving from non-aeronautical products, the statistic underscores the growing push to turn transportation hubs into flourishing supermalls.
“Retail and concession revenues have become a major revenue source—if not the lifeline—for airports, many of which are morphing into high-end shopping malls,” NCR said in the report, which was compiled using interviews with 1,000 U.S. consumers.
Long lines and holiday crowds can easily turn the most wonderful time of the year into the most frustrating time of the year. Today’s consumers are used to being one-click away from most items on their wish list and as they abandon their virtual shopping carts for the real thing this shopping season, retailers should be prepared to keep up with their tech savvy needs in brick-and-mortar stores. This means easy payments, fast service and exceptional customer service. One of the most successful ways retailers can create a stand-out in-store experience is through the use of a mobile point-of-sale (MPOS) system.
A mobile POS system benefits both the retailer and the consumer by creating an approachable workforce that offers improved customer experience, while simultaneously streamlining behind-the-scenes processes. A simple consumer solution such as Square or Level-Up will offer most mom-and-pop shops a solution to the increase in holiday shoppers by offering a faster and easier checkout experience. However, for large retailers considering deploying a mobile POS system this holiday season, an enterprise-grade solution is the truly the only reliable, secure option. Here are a few things retailers with a mobile POS on their holiday wish list should consider when picking out a solution:
- Checkout Features: Consumers have more ways to purchase an item than ever before, often at the click of a button. Retailers need to be prepared to accommodate whatever form of payment a customer wants to use, especially if that company operates globally. In total, mobile POS systems should be able to handle traditional payments, including cash, as well as chip and pin, European chip and pin, RFID and near-field communication (NFC). Barcode scanners are also an in-demand checkout feature of mobile POS because they automatically activate with a simple swipe across the scanning field cutting down on the time it takes to complete a purchase.
- Security Standards: Just as consumers are increasingly concerned about their online security, retailers are cracking down on secure in-store forms of payment. Retailers need to integrate mobile POS security solutions that adhere to the PCI Data Security Standard, with software certified as PCI-PDS and hardware as PCI-PTS compliant. Essentially, this means no information is actually stored on the mobile devices itself, and therefore can’t be retrieved if the device is hacked. Furthermore, retailers are starting to require EMV 1 and EMV 2 certification, which authorizes PIN and integrated chip payments from debit, credit and smart cards.
- Integration with Existing Processes: The most beneficial mobile POS solutions will be compatible with everything from backend sales systems to inventory to CRM systems. Mobile POS should streamline business processes, not create more hassle for employees. Whether it knows if a hot-ticket item is out-of-stock and where to find it another store, or making a recommendation based on a customer’s last purchase, an improved customer experience can only happen when mobile POS systems are well integrated with existing back-end processes.
Give the gift of mobile POS to employees and shoppers this holiday season. The flexibility and mobility that mobile POS offers allows salespeople to cut down on endless lines and manage the crowd, without forsaking their ability to pay attention to the individual needs of shoppers and create an optimal in-store experience.

What’s next when it comes to mobile point-of-sale (POS) technology? As more retailers roll out new mobile POS systems, the demand for next-generation features is growing. No longer content to use mobile POS technology that can simply take payment information via a mobile device, retailers now want up-and-coming solutions that not only improve the front-end customer experience, but also back-end efficiency and integration as well.
Here are the five most in-demand mobile POS features you should watch out for before the close of the year:
1. Multiple payment options: Thinking beyond the traditional credit/debit card swipe, mobile POS systems should be able to handle chip and PIN, near-field communication (NFC), European chip and PIN, and RFID via key fob. Since making a sale ultimately means accepting whatever form of payment a shopper wants to use, multiple payment options is one of the top industry demands when it comes to mobile POS. While it’s surprisingly often forgotten by mobile POS vendors, multiple payment options also means that mobile POS systems should include the ability to take cash transactions.
2. Enterprise-grade, built-in security for global use: With the retail industry cracking down on overall security for payment information given the consistent threat of hacking rings and cybercriminals, enterprise-grade security has become more important than ever. Retailers are focusing on integrating security solutions that adhere to the PCI Data Security Standard, with software certified as PCI-PDS and hardware as PCI-PTS compliant. This ensures that no information is actually stored on the mobile device and, as such, can’t be retrieved if the device is hacked. Furthermore, retailers are starting to require EMV 1 and EMV 2 certification, which authorizes PIN and integrated chip payments from debit, credit and smart cards.
3. CRM integration: It’s not just about taking payments; retailers want mobile POS solutions that are multifunction, with the ability to not only integrate with legacy POS systems but also sync with CRM systems. This allows retailers to collect critical information on customer spending habits, giving them the potential to upsell a shopper at the POS with suggestions for complementary items.
4. Barcode scanners: Though it may seem straightforward, barcode scanners that automatically activate with a simple swipe across the scanning field are an in-demand feature for mobile POS. As retailers look to cut down the overall checkout time for a customer — helping to move additional foot traffic through stores and the checkout process — an edge can be critical. In addition, barcode scanners are an essential piece of real-time inventory management, turning your mobile POS system into an all-in-one answer to both front-end and back-end efficiency.
5. Apple devices (still!): Apple devices continue to be a favorite of retailers when it comes to selecting devices for their mobile POS. The key for retailers is that Apple devices are highly popular with staff, and thus require limited training resources. The key here is that mobile POS systems must be able to offer compatibility with Apple’s new lighting connectors, which require a brand new port for connectivity.
